Sherry Bonelli and Barb Klein have partnered together as a team for the last twenty years providing development and management services in 30 different states to over 50 ambulatory surgery centers, and 9 surgical hospitals. Two of those surgical hospitals required to develop operations for a single bed emergency room. Their past services have been utilized by corporate groups such as ASC Group, Nueterra, Health South, Columbia HCA, AMSURG, as well as numerous independent organizations. Those services directed all aspects of the initial development process from groundbreaking to achieving licensure/certification/accreditation through areas impacting ongoing operations.

Six years ago, they joined the team at Cardio Surgical Partners to provide these same development and management services. Their main focus as part of the CSP team was to develop and oversee programs for ASCs that specialize in cardiovascular and electrophysiology procedures. These programs included educating and training the staff to the ever changing environment of rules and regulations that govern an ambulatory surgery center; management oversight of the ASC’s electronic patient health information system; credentialing; policy & procedure compliance; staff recruitment/training; maintaining procedures to meet the center’s survey compliance readiness for Licensing/Certification/Accreditation; budgeting and cost assessment; revenue cycle management; and payer contracting.

Sherry’s beginning “boots on the ground” experience started as the administrator for the first Medicare ENT surgery center and later as the administrator for a pain management ASC. Her involvement with the ENT center led her to represent a national organization as their regulatory liaison to HCFA (now CMS) dealing with appropriate reimbursements and adding procedures to the Medicare procedures list. Her associated activities during this time also included conducting workshops for various organizations addressing regulatory considerations when developing an ASC, obtaining maximum reimbursement, managed care contracting, developing a revenue cycle management program for the ambulatory surgery center, or trends in reimbursement for the ASC site. Organization’s that have featured her as a guest speaker have been the California Ambulatory Surgery Association, the Florida Ambulatory Surgery Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society. When not working Sherry enjoys reading, a good political debate with her two sons, or keeping up with her three energetic grandchildren who never fail to make her laugh.
